Tsukidansa or Moon Dancers are a group of women who follow the path of Akaruitsukinomusume. They share a common skillset and rite of initiation as the followers of Kuraitsukinomusume but they differ in their moral code and how they put their skills to use.

Girls are often chosen by priestesses for their beauty and intellect. To be chosen is a great honour and girls begin study at a young age (around 8-10 years). At some point after the blossoming of their womanhood (though usually between the ages of 18 and 21) they undergo initiation to become a fully fledged Moon Dancer.

The initiate is bathed in sacred oils and wrapped in a black blanket. She is taken to the heart of the heavenly glade at night under a full moon where a rare flower called the Tsukirōtasu or Moon Lotus. The blanket is removed and she is left there naked and alone. What's unusual about this dark purple flower is that it has buds which, when the moon is full open to release a pale gass that contains millions of microscopic seeds. These seeds when inhaled in large quantities can be fatal in all but the strongest of women. Those who aren't worthy die and their bodies become one with the earth. Those who live gain an extra boost of Kai energy and are able to control the flow of kai energy in themselves and others by touch. This can be used to either drain the life force of another or to give life force to another to heal them.

In addition to this gift, the Moon Dancers are trained in the arts of unarmed combat, seduction and stealth. They are also taught the arts of kai manipulation and become powerful natural witches. A Moon dancer is more effective than anyone else at ritual magick and this power increases at night under a full moon.

The moon dancers make great scouts and spies. Also great healers. They are protectors of the empire.
