The Enyxsil occupy the southern region of Khlem, in an area that encompasses the great Bahazid Desert. The marble city of Xianec is in Enyxsil territory and under Enysil rule.

Physiology

Enyxsil are fairly short in stature but slim bodied. Their skin tone varies from a light brownish colouration to black. They have dark hair and darker eyes. Due to thousands of years of living in harsh and hot desert climates they have developed flatter noses with wider nostrils to allow more efficient breathing. They also have two eyelids. Their second, inner, eyelid is a transparent yet tinted layer of skin that can seal off the eye and protect it both from the harsh glare of the sun and from the viscous sandstorms that often sweep the desert. Enysil sweat little, conserving what water and salt their bodies do have. To keep cool they tend to pant heavily which expels cooling air from their lungs.

An average Enysil has a life span of about ninety to one hundred years. They are quite agile and fast moving with kteen senses. They tend to be slightly weaker physically than, say, the Adulon. However they make up for this by being lighter and more dextrous. Their agility withers greatly with age, as does their ability to withstand periods of drought. Often their inner eyelids darken to the point of blindness with age.

Naming Conventions

The Enxysil have one or two names. They do not have surnames as such. Instead they suffix their names based on the city, town or village they are from. So, for example, the Sutaran of Xianic is currently Ardashir Beham Xianec.

When coming up with Enyxsil names look at Persian history.

Culture and Religion

Enysil are skilled at taming and training the Vortus, a large flying lizard native to the Bahazid desert. They often sell these great beasts to other races, often at high prices. A Vortus is able to carry up to three strong men at a time over great distances and at great speed.

The Enysil have many deities, all of which represent elemental forms of natural forces. The most revered of these is Aquatica, the water goddess, and her sister Sodila, the salt goddess. This is not surprising since water and salt are precious commodities to the Enysil. They fear Imollator, god of fire, who lights the great furnace that is the midday sun and makes the land barren.

The Enysil burn their dead in great funeral pyres. This is done for two reasons. Firstly, they believe that the body is a prison for the soul and in order for their loved ones to make the journey to the afterlife their bodies must be burned or their souls will be trapped inside them forever. The second reason is that in burning the bodies they are making a symbolic offering to Imollator and failure to do so may incur his wrath. When Imollator is angry the sand burns and the land becomes barren so the Enysil do all they can to appease him.
