The Tsukinokodomotachi (moon children) occupy the whole of the eastern continent of Tsukinotochi. The current seat of power resides in the Scarlet city (Hironoshi).

Physiology

Like the Enyxsil, the Tsukinokodomotachi are fairly short in stature but slim bodied. Their skin tone varies from pale to lightly tanned. They have straight, black hair and dark eyes. They also tend to have less body hair, less facial hair, flatter faces, smaller noses, wider cheekbones than an Adulon.

An average Tsukinokodomotachi has a life span of about ninety to one hundred years. They have a poise and grace about them and their precise control of their body movements give them great acrobatic skills.

Naming Conventions

Tsukinokodomotachi have two names. They have a first name and a surname. The first name is usually written AFTER the surname.

When creating Tsukinokodomotachi names look at Japanese names.

Culture and Religion

Tsukinokodomotachi society is feudal in nature. The land is divided into several states or shogonates resided over by a shogun. All shogonates are answerable to the royal Empire. In some ways this mimics feudal Japan but with one very important difference.

In Tsukinokodomotachi society women and men hold equal positions of power. Lineage is traced through the female as mothers give birth to sons and daughters. Their religion is also matrarchial in nature.

The Royal line is based on birth with the eldest being successor to the throne, be they male or female. If they marry then their betrothed is classed as a prince or princess; only the bloodline can claim to be Emporer / Empress.

The crowning ceremony is both a symbolic and religious one. The new Empress bathes in the sacred spring, a small lake situated near the northern edge of the crimson plains that is heated by natural geothermal currents. The mark of the royal seal is tatooed onto her body and she is escorted naked to the temple of Inochinohaha the mother goddess where she spends eight hours in communion with the goddess.

There is another way one can ascend to the throne and that is by combat. The challengers are stripped of all clothing and posessions and taken to the summit of mount Arashiyama (Storm mountain). Whoever returns from that desolate peak is crowned the new ruler.

Tochitsukin religion is centered around a number of deities that are humanised representations of natural forces and human emotions. Running through the religion is the concept of Kai - a mystical energy or life force that exists in all living things. Kai mastery is the process of manipulating this energy to effect changes on the world around you or on yourself.

There are many Tsukinokodomotachi deities representing many things. The ruling body of the heavens, however, is structured as follows:

Tenogohahasama (Heavenly mother) - The mother of all life. Empress of the gods. She rules the heavens sternly yet justly.

Tenochichi (Heavenly father) - Prince and consort of Inochinohaha. He is feirce and passionate.

Akaruitsukinomusume and Kuraitsukinomusume - The twin sisters. They are goddesses of the passions, one dark (Kurai) and one light (Akarui). Also linked to Nadu and Thoth. They are also deities of music, merriment, love and lust. They are daughters of Tenogohahasama and Tenochichi. There are two sects that follow their worship:-

Kōkatsunamessenjā (Cunning Messenger) - The prankster goddess. She is the messenger of the royal heavenly court and their dealings with the Tsukinokodomotachi are through her. She is a master trickster and likes to play jokes on humanity.

Honōnomegami (Goddess of the flame) - Deity of warmth and fire

Uminokami (God of the Sea) - Deity of water and the ocean

Kazenokami (God of the wind) - Deity of air and sky

Kinomegami (Goddess of the wood) - Deity of crops and the earth
